French Curricular Overview

What is French B?

In French B, students are expanding their ability to communicate in French. We will begin by reviewing concepts learned in 6th grade French. By the end of the year, students will have a more developed foundation for talking about themselves and their likes and dislikes. Students in French B focus on speaking and writing in the present tense, the near future tense, and the recent past tense. We will continue work on concepts like gender of nouns, adjective agreement, verb conjugations and we will work on developing more complex sentence structures. Generally in French B, we will cover chapters 4-6 of the textbook in addition to using outside resources and materials to supplement the language learning experience. Culture studies will focus on the Francophone world.

Homework Policy

The homework I give is intended to provide meaningful and necessary practice of skills being learned in the classroom. Students should expect to have about 3 formal assignments per week. In addition to written assignments, students should independently practice vocabulary and verb conjugations using techniques learned in the classroom such as flashcards and five column notes.

Regular homework assigned will be graded for completion not accuracy as students are just learning and practicing material. For these assignments (generally workbook pages or worksheets). Students will not receive full-credit for incomplete work or late work. Students are encouraged to seek help to complete homework and are allowed to hand in late work for half credit. Late work will not be accepted more than one week past its original due date. Students are responsible for handing in late work to the teacher. Failure to complete assignments on a regular basis may result in a detention or an ARC referral where they will be required to complete the necessary work.

For graded assignments, students will receive ten percent off per day it is late. As with regular daily assignments I believe that all assignments are necessary to practice material learned in class . If necessary students will be assigned to the ARC to complete these assignments.
